Identification of priority Value Chains under the AfCFTA for ECOWAS

The Project at A Glance

The AfCFTA represents a historic opportunity for the economic integration of the African continent, aiming to create a single market with free movement of goods, services, and people. West Africa, with its diverse range of natural resources, has the potential to be a major player in this regional integration process.

International Economics is contributing to a study aimed at determining the potential of value chains in West Africa in the context of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

What We Found

The study focuses on identifying the most promising value chains in West Africa that can benefit from the AfCFTA. By analyzing the potential of different value chains, our team aims to provide insights for policymakers and investors to make informed decisions about where to allocate resources.

The study employs a multi-disciplinary approach, drawing on expertise in economics, trade, agriculture, and other related fields. Both quantitative and qualitative methods are being used to assess the potential of different value chains, taking into account factors such as market demand, supply chain logistics, infrastructure, and regulatory frameworks.

Through this study, our team hopes to contribute to the economic development of West Africa and to the broader goal of regional integration through the AfCFTA.
