The Project at A Glance
What We Found
Netherlands Trust Fund phase III Programme (NTFIII) aims to enhance export competitiveness of selected sectors in selected targeted countries through an integrated approach to sector competitiveness built around one outcome. The envisaged outcome of NTF III Kenya was to enhance the export competitiveness of the avocado sector in Kenya and generate new export revenue. The project focused on improving the Kenyan avocado value chain for a pilot region including production, post-harvest handling, sales and marketing by working with farmers and with exporting SMEs. It also supported farmer groups, allowing them to increase their supply in terms of quantity and quality.
Our Strategy and Impact
Our CEO revised and updated the Commodity Business Plan (CBP) for avocado, including an action plan that would provide a new vision for the industry to take advantage of market opportunities and increase the export capacity of SMEs and farmer groups. The Action Plan delineated specific tasks to be accomplished in terms of market entry, product quality management, distribution and promotion and defined a feasible implementation timeframe. The CBP also integrated findings and recommendations of a market opportunity study to be undertaken in Europe and in the Middle East.
