Definition of a Sustainability and Development Plan for the Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Indian Ocean (UCCIOI)

The Project at A Glance

The private sector is the engine of a country’s growth, and private sector organizations and institutions such as chambers of commerce and industry and industry associations play a catalytic role in the sustained promotion, inclusive and sustainable economic development.

International Economics supported the Union des Chambres de Commerce et d’Industrie de l’Océan Indien (UCCIOI) in their work to foster economic growth within the Indian Ocean Region.

What We Found

UCCIOI has a common vision for the Indian Ocean and is committed to promoting business participation as well as private sector participation in key activities and projects essential to the prosperous and sustainable development of the Indian Ocean region. Among other objectives, the UCCIOI is committed to fostering economic development, trade and investment relations between its Member States, between its member institutions and among the economic operators they individually represent.

Our Team focused on an analysis of the situation and the definition of UCCIOI’s strategic development, which comprised preparing a strategic plan for UCCIOI’s ongoing development and sustainability. Moreover, it analysed UCCIOI’s economic model and updated its White Book, while integrating a common strategic vision based on UCCIOI Members’ priorities.

Our Strategy and Impact

The Indian Ocean is a dynamic economic region with a thriving private sector with great potential for development. The UCCIOI, through an appropriate collaborative framework can play a pivotal role in the development of policies, their implementation and their monitoring. The roles and responsibilities of the UCCIOI must be strengthened and improved to enable the UCCIOI to assume and affirm its legitimate aspiration to be the engine of inclusive and sustainable growth and development in the region.

After the analysis of UCCIOI’s economic model and that of its Members our Team has:

  • Updated the white book, including integration of a common strategic vision based on UCCIOI Members’ priorities as an economic model and financial projection;
  • Developed a sustainability and development plan for UCCIOI with year ranges; and
  • Developed an operational roadmap for 5 years (an annual breakdown through an action plan 2019-2023).
