International Economics (IEC) is providing technical assistance to the GIZ in developing a foresight study on the implications of blockchain on sustainable development and sustainable finance in GIZ partner countries from a macro-perspective.

Through consultation with relevant stakeholders, IEC will prepare a foresight study on the existing influential Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) applications, their potential impact on financing sustainable development, and the pre-conditions for such development in partner countries.

Specific tasks include preparing thorough research methodology; conducting structured interviews with relevant stakeholders in the blockchain community, policymakers and regulators working on national financial, economics, and environmental development, academia, and think tanks; preparing a foresight study on the existing influential DLT applications, their potential impact on financing sustainable development, and the pre-conditions for such development in partner countries; and recommendations for the international development cooperation community on how to support developing and emerging countries in taking advantage of blockchain trends, especially in the area of financial and economic growth.

The ultimate objective of the project is to generate a better understanding of how DLT can contribute to finance sustainable development in the GIZ partner countries, taking into account the international development perspective.
