International Economics (IEC) is providing technical assistance to the Asian Development Bank’s Country Partnership Strategy with Cambodia for 2019-2023. This programme includes as one of its pillars to accelerate competitiveness and economic diversification. The programme aims to support policy and institutional reforms to accelerate the structural transformation of Cambodia’s economy and enhance its competitiveness, especially within the context of supporting recovery from the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

IEC will develop an analytical study, and subsequent recommendations, to cover, inter alia, gaps in the policy, institutional, and regulatory framework for trade and trade facilitation; compliance issues relating to existing trade agreements; customs-related matters; non-tariff measures (NTMs), technical barriers to trade (TBT) and sanitary and phytosanitary measures (SPS); border management; as well as infrastructure weaknesses. It is equally important to benchmark and compare the performance of Cambodia with other countries in the region, particularly those in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). The diagnostic analysis will be a basis for dialogue with the Royal Government of Cambodia and other stakeholders.
