International Economics (IEC) is conducting a diagnostic assessment of the informal sector in Mauritius, its characteristics, distribution, and its specific vulnerabilities; gaps between the formal and informal sectors in terms of needs and capacities; opportunities and challenges (drivers and incentives) for formalization; and a proposal of strategic policy and programmatic interventions, approaches for strengthening their ecosystem with a view to facilitate the transition to the formal sector. The outcome of this diagnosis will guide the development of a programme on informal sector graduation and a framework to develop a roadmap that will guide policy design and programmatic interventions aimed at strengthening the formal sector ecosystem, addressing the challenges the informal sector faces and its transition into the formal system.
